Going Green

First Green

Since our inception, building a sustainable workplace has been one of our main priorities. We have always made environmentally friendly decisions with our building designs, and in recent years, have made a conscious and ongoing effort to create a more sustainable work environment.

Recycling at work has become a large part of our efforts. We currently recycle aluminum cans, plastic bottles, plastic bags, office paper, and newspapers. We also serve as Statesboro's only business drop-off site for plastic bag recycling, and in return, we give complimentary reusable tote bags.

More recently, we have joined A Partnership for A Sustainable Georgia, to help us set sustainability goals and advise us how we can make the greatest environmental impact while keeping the best interests of our shareholders in mind. This partnership has allowed First Southern to accomplish many of our environmental goals, and to continue being a leader among businesses in sustainability.

In addition to recycling in the workplace, we have implemented the following this past year:

  • Replaced all lights with fluorescent bulbs
  • Promoted free electronic statements (versus traditional paper statements)
  • Focused on employee education (recycling at home and at work)
  • Reduced paper usage by several means including printing double-sided pages when possible, and ordering from and using vendors who are environmentally friendly

We continue to make changes to improve our environmental policy, and we appreciate your questions and feedback. For more information please contact Sarah Chester at 912-489-7677 or by email schester@first-southern.com.
